New Music Coming in 2027!

Two albums:
“Resilience” with DeVé & “Vita Brevis” with Marco Iacobini

I am extremely pleased to officially announce that we are concurrently in production of two albums that should both see the proverbial light of day in 2027. These are 1) DeVé’s “Resilience” EP which is set to feature Quicksilver Night and several stellar guest musicians and 2) Quicksilver Night’s all-instrumental album “Vita Brevis” driven by the ferociously talented guitar work of Marco Iacobini.

Resilience” is currently programmed as an eclectic five-song release that incorporates elements of multiple music genres that include touches of the blues, bebop, gospel, R&B, and progressive rock. The common elements across all of these songs are my meager compositional skills and DeVé’s dynamic lyricism delivered by her powerhouse voice. At the time of this post we have completely finished recording the gospel-tinged “Hear Them Sing” – with Jae Sinnett on drums and Eric Musselwhite on tenor sax – as well as the hybridized progressive folk rock and R&B of the operatic “To the Sky”. We also very nearly done with the undeniably jazzy “Small Talk” which is set to feature Eldon Sully on guitar. We have two additional songs in the wings, a vocal version of the smoky blues of “Seven Cities Blue” and the driving funk of “Don’t Count Me Out”, both of which are slated to feature the cool sax stylings of Jeff Saunders* alongside DeVe’s magical voice.

DeVé and I attended the 2026 VEER Music Awards on February 9th, 2026. We were happy enough to have received four nominations across three categories, a welcome validation in of itself, but thrilled to discover that we won Animated/AI Music Video for our version of Missing Persons’ “Words” featuring DeVé on vocals. DeVé was dressed to kill, as you see, and accepted the award on our behalf.

(* … You can find the instrumental version of the song “Seven Cities Blue” at all major DSPs and I should note that Jeff also played saxophone on that version of the song. Please go to Seven Cities Blue for more info.)

The forthcoming “Vita Brevis” album – formerly titled* “Hedonic Calculus” after the album’s longest song – is a collection of progressive instrumentals driven by the stunningly virtuosic guitarist Marco Iacobini. Here’s how I described it to Marco when I first approached him about it: “…I’ve cobbled together a collection of seven songs that have enough stylistic continuity to hang well together as an album plus I’m of the strong opinion that they’d all greatly benefit from your hard-to-beat combination of flawless technique and unerring melodic sensibilities.” I stand by that; the seven songs of [the] album are the same sort of distilled progressive rock that I describe as Quicksilver Night’s primary genre so prepare yourselves for lot of exotic modes and meters navigated with breathtaking musical precision by Marco, an absolute master of of his guitar craft, all contained within a concise songwriting framework. I have every confidence that this is going to be a breathtaking album, enjoyable by both casual listeners and connoisseurs alike.

(* … the song “Hedonic Calculus” is over seven and a half minutes long (7:37) and is quite aptly titled but I decided to rename the album “Vita Brevis” after the far shorter (3:53) yet richly complex and beautifully expansive song of the same name simply because I think “Vita Brevis” (“Life is Short”) is more emblematic of the spirit we’re trying to evoke across the album.)

I should probably also add that I have two additional song candidates for inclusion on the “Vita Brevis” album but we’re going to wait until we have the other seven songs ready for mastering – or at least much further along in production than they are now – before we decide whether to include the other two songs. Ultimately it will be up to Marco, of course.

Based in Rome, Italy, Marco Iacobini is an excellent composer and arranger in his own right but, beyond that, is also a next-level guitarist that simply must be heard to be believed. Fearlessly inventive and ceaselessly melodic, his playing lends a professional depth and brilliant polish to any song that he graces.

Please enjoy this sneak peek – a single minute in length – of the song “Vita Brevis” in its infancy, just a small sample of the expansive sonic canvases that I’ve sent to Marco for our collaborative album of the same name. Just wait and see what he does with them! 🙂
