One of four singles released from Missing Persons’ 1982 “Spring Sessions M” album, “Words” spoke to teenage me about mass media overload in deceptively sugar-coated terms and I loved it. I believe our version of “Words” maintains the original intention of the song, as I understand it: a protest against media overload and its promulgation of false narratives.
Released July 4th, 2025, our version contains a piano and strings introduction inlaid with some spoken word by my dear friend Dikajee (in Russian); those words foreshadow and later accompany my narration at the bridge of the song alongside DeVé’s spot-on performance of the original bridge lyrics. The resultant somewhat indistinct babble is intentional and is meant to invoke the very overload that the song describes.
