Quintus Interruptus

A musically unique song featuring The Unified One on lead guitar, “Quintus Interruptus” would’ve been very much at home on Quicksilver Night’s all-instrumental album “Asymptote” (2021).

“Quintus Interruptus” is not an afterthought to “Asymptote” but it had no place on any of Quicksilver Night’s other immediately forthcoming releases so we decided to release it as a digital-only single rather than wait for an entire album of similar material.

“Quintus Interruptus” is available at all major digital retailers.

I had an oddly mixed-meter groove in my head that I couldn’t expunge that we eventually developed into the song “Quintus Interruptus”. It began as a working title, something of a music nerd joke, because of the recurring pattern of 5/4 interrupted 4/4 but we eventually sort of collectively shrugged and decided to keep the title as it seemed quirkily appropriate.

Berkshires guitarist and composer Stephen Speelman is a classically trained musician, possessing a master’s degree from Stony Brook University, where he studied with Jerry Willard. Stephen composed for and performed in the progressive band Unified Past, where he worked alongside vocalist Phil Naro. He’s also played guitar for Joey Belladonna’s cover band Chief Big Way.

Stephen presently lays down tracks for other artists under the name “The Unified One” even as he continues to record “Sir Stephen of Dudley”, a guitar instrumental project which he hopes to have out by the end of 2023.
